| Fiuggi - Lazio |
Almost all the territory around Fiuggi is made up by woods and green areas. Chestnut trees, oaks, lime-tree, maple trees, fir-trees, pines and giant sequoia dominate the landscape and create new view according to the season.
From Fiuggi it’s easy to get to the Canterno Lake natural riserve, to the Arcinazzo plateau, to the charming view in Campo Catino and Campo Staffi and also get to the underground world at the Pastena grottos, made up by 3000 metres of stalactites and stalagmites, an Italian interesting speleological patrimony.
Fiuggi is also located in a good position to visit other cities in Lazio, such as Anagni, Montecassino or the great Rome.
Many are the monuments that recollect the history of Fiuggi:
- TOWN HALL: Built between 1925-26 designed by Eng. Luigi Rodolfi, it matches the buildings of the 15th century.
- PORTA DELL’OLMO (gate of the town) that once lead into the highest part of the castle.
- CHURCH OF S.CHIARA named after the Virgin Mary, better known as S. Chiara.
- GRAND HOTEL: liberty style building that currently hosts art exhibitions and the Municipal Theatre.
- PORTA DELL PORTELLA (gate of the town) that lead into the antique town of Felcia.
Just to mention a few!
The antique town is still bound to the medieval era by some towers of the walls of defence that can still be seen here and there among the houses.
“…If it was not for the fact that Eva is not here offering you an apple, you would think you were in Earthly Paradise” this was Ferdinand Gregorovius’s opinion when he visited Anticoli di Campagna, ancestor of Fiuggi. |
