Fiuggi, which hosts the Silva Hotel Splendid, is known in Italy and Europe as one most important Spa resorts. Famous not only for its waters and health centres, Fiuggi is still a small medieval town in the heart of Ciociaria, bound to rural traditions and flavours of the land.
Up to 1911 this medieval town was called Anticoli di Campagna and later became Fiuggi, from the Italian word “Frugi” meaning, ever since ancient times, the place where the water springs. This location is rich in thriving chestnut tree vegetation, where ferns grow in abundance in the undergrowth, which are indeed called “Feuci” or “Frugi” in Italian dialect.
Fiuggi still hasn’t changed and is situated in the province of Frosinone in the southern part of Lazio known as “CIOCIARIA”. This term derives from the name of the antique shoes of this land: the “Cioccie”.
Antique tales and traditions make Ciociaria and Fiuggi a land that is strictly bound to history and religion. Religious, farming and folklore traditions still continue strongly even today: from the town festivals to folklore games, being an expression of a genuine world.
